In Our Own Voices

The Truttmans— Forward to Yesterday: Grazing Our Way to the Future

Wisconsin's state motto is "Forward." Today in Wisconsin, a growing number of dairy farmers are looking forward to a better life by looking back in history. Using less-intensive farming and grazing techniques from farmers past, dairy farmers, like Dan and Shelly Truttman, have been able to make a living doing what they love. Of course, this being the Forward state, today's grazing is based on scientific management practices and thoughtful botanical husbandry. Needless to say, it takes great skill to farm this new/old way.

Dan and Shelly, as you'll hear in this story, are tremendously excited about their futures as farmers and the way forward on their family's 100-year old dairy farm.
